Championing Gender Equality & Inclusive Leadership In The New EU Legislature – How Do We Get There?

On 4th of December Redscope Consulting Team had the pleasure to co-host the 1st senior experts round-table on “Championing Gender Equality & Inclusive Leadership Within The New EU Legislature” at the European Parliament (EP), together with MEP Robert Biedroń (Vice-chair of Women’s Rights and Gender Equality committee).

Among other senior guests, this Round-Table was attended by MEP Heidi Hautala (MEP and Vice-president of the European Parliament) & MEP Jackie Jones, and our sponsors – Louise Harvey (FTIConsulting) & Elizabeth Krahulecz (E&Y). The conversation was facilitated by Redscope’s Executive Director – Claudia de Castro Caldeirinha.

With 61% of newly elected MEPs arriving for the current EP legislature, a new EC with the first woman President in the EU’s history, an EC Commissioner in charge of Equality, and the new European Gender Equality Strategy in the pipeline– it was a timely moment for this cross-sectorial senior conversation on how to accelerate Gender Equality (GE) & Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) agendas in Leadership and Decision-Making, to exchange best practices, and to cultivate synergies among amazing leading actors from the different sectors in international Brussels.

During this event, senior participants addressed the following questions: (i) What does the new context bring in terms of opportunities? (ii) What are the priorities & recommendations to accelerate the EU Gender Equality and Diversity & Inclusion agendas?

A list of concrete recommendations on how to accelerate GE and D&I in Leadership and Decision-Making in the EU’s different sectors emerged from the debate and will be shared with EU leaders in the coming months. The second step of this process involves a high-level conference with EU leaders in the first quarter of 2020.
