Women leading the way in Europe: conversation with Robert Byron

“Women Leading the Way in Europe” is a monthly series of informal interviews with role models that are leading the way for gender equality in Europe. They were initially conceived as a celebration of the 5 year anniversary (already!) of the book “Women Leading the Way in Brussels” (co-authored by Claudia de Castro Caldeirinha and Corinna Hörst).

What is the purpose of these interviews? To take stock of the last 5 years, both in terms of developments but also in terms of setbacks for women in leadership, to assess the present trends, and to provide a vision (and tips) for the coming years.

Our second guest is MEP Robert Biedroń.

A Polish politician, former mayor of Slupsk (Poland) and current MEP at the European Parliament, serving since 2019. At the European Parliament, he chairs the Committee on Gender Equality and Women’s Rights and it is thanks to his work and the work of his team  that many advancements in the field of gender equality and women’s rights have been achieved at the EP and EU level. His commitment to defending and advancing LGBTIQ rights is a key element of his work and political career.

Robert Biedroń is well aware that equality is an issue for all genders. In this interview, he provides us with an overview of the trends and developments in the field and explains how equality delivers “wins” for everyone. For him, solidarity is the solution and the only way forward for a democratic Europe.

It was a tremendous pleasure to exchange with him. I hope this interview inspires more men to become allies in this gender equality journey, because as he said: “this is not only a women’s fight.”

If you want to know more about his experience and expertise, watch the full interview.

And don’t hesitate to stay tuned for the upcoming interview in this series of talks!
